OpenClaw WhatsApp Lead Triage for Indian Small Businesses
A safety-first workflow outline for Indian small businesses that want OpenClaw to help triage WhatsApp lead messages without exposing personal chats or secrets.
Business problem
Many Indian small businesses receive leads through WhatsApp but lose track of who needs a callback, quotation, demo, payment reminder, or support follow-up.
This workflow uses OpenClaw as a triage assistant, not as an unsupervised sales bot.
Recommended boundary
Use a dedicated WhatsApp number where possible. Do not casually connect your personal WhatsApp number, family groups, staff groups, or customer chats that contain private information.
Workflow overview
- Incoming messages arrive on a dedicated business number.
- OpenClaw summarizes the lead request.
- The lead is placed into a bucket such as new inquiry, quote needed, follow-up due, support issue, or ignore/spam.
- A human reviews the bucket before sending business-critical replies.
- Confirmed follow-ups are added to a lead sheet, CRM, or task list.
Safety boundaries
- Do not auto-reply to every WhatsApp message by default.
- Do not include personal chats or unrelated groups.
- Do not store WhatsApp session data in public repos, screenshots, or support forms.
- Do not let the agent send payment, refund, legal, medical, or high-stakes commitments without human review.
- Keep Gateway private through loopback, SSH tunnel, or a private network pattern.
Setup steps
- Run the readiness check before connecting WhatsApp.
- Prepare the VPS and keep Gateway private.
- Configure a dedicated WhatsApp number where possible.
- Decide the lead buckets before enabling any automation.
- Start with read-only summary and tagging.
- Add human-approved follow-up actions only after testing.
Good output vs bad output
Good output is a short summary plus a conservative bucket, such as “new inquiry: wants website pricing, call tomorrow.”
Bad output is an automatic promise, a hallucinated price, a reply to the wrong group, or a summary that includes private data that should not be stored.
Maintenance checklist
- Review buckets weekly.
- Rotate or remove unused tokens.
- Check who can message the WhatsApp number.
- Redact logs before asking for help.
- Re-run the VPS security checklist after changing Gateway, channels, or tool permissions.
When to ask for setup help
Ask for help if you are not sure how to keep WhatsApp isolated from personal chats, how to keep Gateway private, or how to connect the lead sheet without exposing secrets.
